The Power of A Welcome

As I started this journey of praying about Mission Nannys, El Salvador, and the Mullinax family in particular, God confirmed so clearly one step right after another... from job situations at home, finances, wisdom from people that God has placed in my life, He made it so clear that this what His next step for me.  This does not mean there were never any nervous, uneasy times though.  Just the unknown... How will I adjust to a new family I have never met in person before? How will they adjust to me?  How will the kids take to me?  What if we don't mesh well?  What if it's not exactly what I thought it would be?  All of these questions were definitely backed by the amazing peace and assurance the Lord gives when we are walking in obedience to Him, but still there none the less.
After a smooth sailing trip all the way here (I'm still in awe of how smooth it was!!), I arrived at the Mullinax household around 9 - 9:30 at night, all these "unknowns" swirling around in my head.  As Jen showed me to my room, I felt so loved and welcomed.... roses that Felice picked out in one cup of water... sunflowers from Arrow in another cup by the window so they could get sun ;), and incredible handwritten notes and pictures from the kids, welcoming me to their world.  I can't tell you what this meant to me.  How it feels for someone to take the time, energy, thoughtfulness, and love to make someone feel welcome. It's almost like one of those big "Grandpa" hugs that makes you feel surrounded with love and warmth.  Such a simple gesture can mean so much.  I know none of them were trying to be profound.  But to me it was.
I hope I can always remember that moment... the WELCOME moment... enough to pass it on to others who need it.
